Tea time!

June is in full swing, and while there is a lot that can be said about the weather (too cold, too wet, too windy), somehow stuff is growing and there are always species that benefit from it.

Like chanterelles! Yesterday I spotted huge swathes of them (still in their infancy) within the city boundary, in a place I’ve not seen them before. They’re in plain view for everyone, so I doubt I will get a chance to eat them, but a lovely sight nonetheless!

A cooler season also benefits the herbs, as they don’t bolt so quickly. I’ve just returned from a very blustery bike ride out to Ordhead to pick mint for John. It’s growing next to a farm, and while I assumed it was a public place at the side of the road, apparently it did belong to the mannie living in the farmhouse. “But you can have it all, please do pick the lot.” A message that did not fall on deaf ears :-).

Mint, and fermenting Rosebay willowherb

I’ve also started up the Rosebay willowherb tea production line, which is a bit more involved than just drying it. You need to roll it and leave it to ferment for a couple of days before drying in a warm oven. It’s my favourite tea!

Talking of which, I’m going to brew up and warm up. Next time, an update on the vegetables and fruits in the garden!
